IT issues-florence

Social networking and expressing your own views on blogs should be a pleasant experience however there are many issues associated with computers and IT today. As a majority of people with access to internet use social network such as Facebook and Twitter, the dangers of hackers and security increase. There are ways to prevent people from hacking your personal account details by putting vague information so that hackers are not tempted and if any information is breached, it will not be personal information that could lead to concerns of the person’s safety.

Email-Furthermore, when completing forms ensure that you do not put personal information and if a pop-up appears, do not type in your email address because many of these sites send spam to the people that do type in their emails.

Passwords-When browsing the internet, everyone should be aware of the risks of giving out information and passwords to sites. These sites can log into the profile that you provide and view personal information such as pin numbers and card details which is not a good experience if all your money from your bank account disappears.

Phone numbers and house addresses-many websites will require phone numbers and house addresses to send products if bought online, but unless the website is official, then never give out this information as it can lead to spamming and many unknown people will know where you live.

To ensure that you have complete safety when using the internet, do not post information that could harm you and take away your money. A good way to protect you is to buy internet protection that stops viruses and protects personal information.

P6: Social Impact through ict

Our modern society has changed due to technological advances he Internet has subtly has been established in most businesses and at home. Emailing was a substantial even as this allowed businesses to communicate virtually. People further establish their thoughts through video conferencing in businesses and applications such as ‘skype’ are seen to be beneficial because people are more comfortable in their homes where they will be connected to the people they work with, the results may also be better as people will express their full views. Video conferencing and emailing saves time and money which is also beneficial to businesses.

People can call others in different countries which is cheaper and less of a hassle. People who cannot make it to work will be able to connect to their colleagues and will earn money whilst ill, and be able to work in a nice environment which may also have better results. There are problems to video conferencing as there may be faults and glitches which will interfere with meetings and may waste time and possibly money if thoughts are not being heard.

Most children have had an impact from ICT as they may be aware of the dangers of the ‘world wide web’. Children also appreciate how the internet can be helpful for homework uses or other interests. Most children are taught by teachers how to search the internet and use programs such as word and PowerPoint that will help them with studies. May children also have an understanding of the dangers of the internet and how they can be harmed from meeting strangers that seem to be nice and appealing to certain age groups.

Mobile phones are seen to be a necessity in modern society as we use them everyday and ‘text’ friends which both saves time and is easier for day to day plans. A problem associated with using mobile phones and the development of technologies is that people stop writing letters and reading which might be seen to reduce intelligence which is not good for future generations.

ICT: The Social Impact

Technology has modified the way that people have managed businesses. It has also affected the ways people communicate with one another. The Internet has subtly been integrated into the workplace. Instead of meeting face-to-face, programs such as instant messengers can be used, and also emails can be sent. This increases the efficiency of work in a business, and consequently saves time and money. People can now have video conference calls from different locations instead of calling meetings. This is also beneficial because people who are absent from the place of work can still access the conferences online.

However, during a video conference it would be much more common to face misconceptions and misunderstandings, as glitches would be faced in the video conferencing program, and this will complicate conversations between people or important meetings between companies. Security issues often come up, as company data which is stored online can be stolen. Therefore, money would have to be spent on software to ensure the security of the essential data.

ICT has had many effects on society, especially on children. It can be used for education, and sometimes for games as well. They also use it to correspond with people. This of course sparks up many safety issues, and many parents are worried about their children targeted for paedophilia. Children should be careful not to give out personal information online with people. However, ICT has also had a positive effect on children as they can share experiences online and anonymously, such as children with cancer who write their suffer stories and post them online.

A form of ICT that has significantly changed society are mobile phones.They started off as a simple way to contact somebody, and now they can be a game, a map, or a camera. Sitting on a public bus you would probably see 2/3 of the people using a mobile phone. They however have been accused of ruining our language. Text messaging, and the need to make messages short, meant we developed new ways of spelling. This lead on to teenagers in schools spelling in 'text speak' and lowering their grades.

ICT: The Social Impact (Eymie)

The social impact of ICT by Eymie

Technology has changed the dynamics of how business is conducted and has also affected the ways people communicate with one another. This is especially true since the Internet has been integrated into the workplace. People can now have video conference calls from different locations instead of calling meetings. Emails, and instant messaging programs can also be used, which increases the efficiency of work as people do not have to meet face to face with others to talk.

However, through the Internet it is much easier for misunderstandings to happen, as video conferencing programs often face glitches or problems which will complicate conversations between people. There is also the fear that company data which may be stored online or on a PC can be hacked. Therefore, money would have to be spent on software to ensure the security of important data.

Mobile phones have changed society. 25 years ago they used to be a great new way to talk to someone, but now they have developed into utilites; a camera, a map or a game. 61% of the global population use mobile phones, which shows they are becoming increasingly popular in society. However, they are having a bad impact, as teenagers who text message eachother have resorted to shortening words, and in essence developed new ways of spelling. In schools, 'text speech' has been used and has basically lowered students' grades in school.

ICT has had many impacts on society, especially on children. It is used for educational and gaming purposes, and sometimes used to communicate with people online. There is a big safety issue with this, as children should not be allowed to talk with strangers online as they may release important information about themselves without meaning to. However children may find an easy way to open up about themselves online, as they can talk about their problems anonymously.

The advantages and disadvantages of video conferencing

Video conferencing (also known as a video teleconference) is when two or more people communicate via video and audio telecommunications. Video conferences are beneficial because;

  •  they enable communication and socialisation at the touch of a button
  • it is possible to communicate with people around the world, not just internationally.
  • It is free on some applications such as skype.
  • people cant just see each other, they can also hear one another.
  • video conferencing is beneficial to business calls because everyone can speak even if they cant make it to a meeting.

Videoconferencing also has its disadvantages as many people can be harmed through the influence of Internet stalkers;

  • there are many cases in which young children are attacked physically and mentally often by men  who know how to take advantage of young children.
  • many people also argue that video conferencing is not good as such things like eye contact do not occur.

Blogs: Advantages and Disadvantages

A blog is a type of website where people write things about themselves. It stands for web blog. It is basically an online journal where people can also post pictures, videos and links as well as talk and communicate with others.

Blogs are very helpful, as most blogs can be automatically organised, to reduce hassle. Also, people can leave responses to posts that people have written. Furthermore, external and internal links can be added to blogs which is a great feature when including a video or a picture in the blog. They are very quick as well as free, as when someone posts something the information can be instantly distributed to search engines, directories and readers.

 There are many risks of having a blog to your personal security. Children may use them and meet dangerous paedophiles. Blogs allow paedophiles to target children through the internet. People sometimes use blogs to target specific people and write anonymously about them, which is unneeded and makes a blog site seem negative, and just a place for slander.

All of this can be avoided by taking extra precautions for safety.  Appropriate methods to protect yourself and your data includes warning your children never to offer any personal information to people they meet via blogs, and pictures they post should be looked over to make sure they are provocative. Evaluating blog sites and checking whether it offers a safe , private password-protect blog.
